40 Days of Body Reverence

I want to invite us to try something.

Lent begins tomorrow and even though I haven’t been a practicing Christian for many years, the rhythms of the liturgical calendar still hold some patterns deep in my bones.

Lent was about restriction, abstaining, coming alongside the suffering of Jesus. We give something up to come closer to Christ.

Subduing the flesh.

And the significance of Jesus is that they were God in a human body. The divine is the human body. The human body is divine.

What if this season of Lent, instead of subduing the flesh, we did the opposite?

Esteem, exalt, honor, praise the flesh.

Take joy, delight, pleasure, rapture in the flesh.

Find peace, comfort, hope in the flesh.

We follow the well worn patterns of these 40 days that our bodies and spirits remember, but instead, turn our attention, practice, offering to the body. To reverence, to pleasure, to care.

Beginning on February 22nd, you are invited to join me in:

40 Days of Body Reverence

The intention is to take a bit of time each day, for 40 days, to tend, honor, pleasure, and celebrate our bodies.

Using Instagram I’ll be sharing different ideas for embodiment practices and pleasure explorations over the 40 days to give folks ideas of what might feel good or possible. You can use my suggestions or celebrate your body and pleasure in whatever ways feel joyous to you. There is no wrong way to participate in this practice.

Following the Lenten practice we will begin on Ash Wednesday and end on Maunday Thursday. There will be invitations to practice six days a week and on Sundays the invitation will be to rest.

If you like to post on social media or just want to follow along, you can follow my Instagram account @BelovedCoaching and use the hashtags #40DaysOfBodyReverence and #TodayMyPleasureIs.

Looking forward to spending this season honoring the divinity of our bodies together!
